A young father left fighting for life after an alleged hit-and-run has woken from a month-long coma and spoken about his miraculous survival for the first time.

Connor McLeod, 25, was walking to a friends house in Loganlea south of Brisbane on February 18 when he was hit by an allegedly unregistered trail bike. 

The accused rider Jermaine Johnason Unuia, 21, allegedly glanced back at Mr McLeod lying in the middle of the road before fleeing the scene.

The allegedly unlicensed driver presented himself to police two days later.

Mr McLeod spent six weeks in hospital and says hes lucky to be alive following the life-changing crash, Nine News reported.

Confronting footage showed Mr McLeod walking across a pedestrian crossing at an intersection before a trail bike smashed into him. 

Passers-by were seen rushing to help the young father lying in the middle of the road. 

Mr McLeod spent four weeks in an induced coma following the alleged hit and run and was finally discharged from hospital last Friday.

The long list of injuries included two collapsed lungs, a fractured rib cage, chipped vertebrae, a compound arm fracture and a fractured skull.  

I was told by the doctors if I didnt go into fetal position like I did I would be paralysed, he said. 

His fiancee Anneliese and young daughter Aliyah were what pulled him through.

If I didnt have them to be honest, I might have even let go in the hospital, Mr McLeod said. 

I was fighting for them, I was fighting to come back. 

Unuia was charged with six offences including dangerous operation of vehicle causing grievous bodily harm and failing to remain at incident and render assistance. 

He didnt appear in person when his case was heard for the first time at Beenleigh Local Court on Tuesday. 

He is expected to face court in May.
