Three people have died and four have been hospitalised following a horror night on NSW roads which saw crews respond to four crashes in four hours.

A man in his 50s, a young woman in her 20s and a 65-year-old woman died within hours of each other in fatal crashes across the state on Friday night. 

The woman in her 20s, who is yet to be formally identified, died at the scene of a two-vehicle smash at Empire Bay Road near the Central Coast at about 8.30pm. 

A second woman, believed to be aged in her 30s, was trapped in her car for a short period after she veered off the road and came to a stop down an embankment. 

She was rescued by Fire and Rescue NSW and was treated at the scene before being taken to hospital in a serious but stable condition. 

Hours earlier, a 53-year-old man died following a two-vehicle crash on The Entrance Road, in Forresters Beach on the Central Coast, at about 6.45pm. 

The man, who was driving a sedan, is yet to formally identified. 

The 30-year-old male driver of a ute and his 29-year-old female passenger, were treated at the scene before being taken to hospital.

In a third fatality on Friday, a 65-year-old woman died following a single-vehicle crash on the Bruxner Highway at South Gundurimba, near Lismore. 

Emergency services discovered a Volvo station wagon in a paddock after it left the road and crashed through a fence at about 8.30pm on Friday. 

In addition to the fatalities, an elderly man was airlifted to hospital in a serious condition following a horror four-vehicle smash on a major highway. 

Emergency services were called to the Central Coast Highway at West Gosford, northern NSW, at about 10.30pm. 

A 40-year-old woman, who was driving another vehicle, was also treated by paramedics before she was taken to hospital. 

The two other drivers were not injured.   

Investigations into each of the incidents have been launched with anyone with information or CCTV urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
