Survivors of the worst natural disaster to hit Spain this century awoke to scenes of devastation this morning after villages were wiped out by monstrous flash floods that claimed at least 95 lives.
Thanks to the phones and cameras of those who braved the waters, as well as drone and helicopter footage from valiant rescuers and emergency services, the horror of the flooding in Valencia has been captured in stunning detail for the world to see.
In material terms, the sheer scale of the devastation was laid bare by clips of entire bridges collapsing under the pressure of surging rivers, houses crumbling into streets, and images of smashed-up cars piled up against buildings in scenes taken straight from a Hollywood disaster blockbuster.
But the human cost of the catastrophe is also depicted in heart-rending videos and photographs underscoring the plight of those who lost everything to the deluge - including their loved ones.
Images of bewildered Valencians picking through the soiled wreckage of their homes amid the realisation their livelihoods had been destroyed emerged alongside clips of elderly, wheelchair-bound nursing home residents sitting forlornly as muddy waters pooled around their waists.
Other terrifying videos showed citizens being swept away, screaming as the powerful current left them powerless to prevent themselves from being smashed into lampposts, cars and other bits of debris.
Traumatised locals were seen calling out in vain for missing relatives likely carried away to their deaths as others were forced to confront waterlogged corpses washing up in their living rooms.
Now, as Spains Civil Guard attempts to rescue thousands of people still stuck while also arresting dozens of opportunistic criminals looting shopping centres and private properties, MailOnline compiles some of the most shocking clips to have surfaced from the sodden streets of Valencia.
