Greater Manchester Police could be seen standing guard having taped off the entrance to the Fallowfield Loop on Ryderbrow Road in Gorton.
Officers arrived on scene at roughly 2pm on Friday afternoon after reports of suspected weapons being found.
The well-known exercise route stretches along a former railway line and runs from Chorlton in south Manchester to Fairfield in Tameside.
Police were preventing any access to the area from the entrance in between Woodland Avenue and Stainton Avenue.
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police told the MailOnline: At around 2pm this afternoon (Friday 13 December 2024), we were called to reports of suspected weapons being found on Ryderbrow Road in Gorton.
A scene remains in place whilst we make our enquiries. There is not thought to be a risk to the wider public at this time.
