The owner of a pit bull cowardly fled the scene with his bloodthirsty dog after a vicious attack that killed a couples tiny poodle.

Disturbing surveillance footage revealed the blood-curdling screams of the poodles owners as they attempted to save their dogs life before the pit bull and his owner were captured on tape running away.

The attack occurred on Friday at around 5:30 pm while the couple was walking down a busy street in Santa Monica, California

The poodle, who was named Dublin, was the victim of the savage attack and sustained fatal injuries as his owners, Alyssa Kluge and Christopher Dietrick, attempted to intervene.

The pit bull lunged at our dog, picked him up off the ground and sunk his teeth into him -- in an extremely violent way, Kluge recalled to local ABC affiliate, KABC News after the attack.

Kluge added that the pit bulls owner was slow to act and wasnt paying attention before the attack.

Dietrick attempted to rescue the poodle but was also bitten by the pit bull. The couple didnt have an opportunity to confront the owner as he ran away after the attack.

Dietrick told KABC that it was cowardly for the owner not to take responsibility for the incident.

The couple rushed Dublin to a nearby animal hospital, but the poodles injuries were too severe and he died.

Kluge told KABC that she cradled her dog in his last moments and tried to comfort him as he died.

I knew he was gone in my arms. Just like how when I first picked him up. He sat in my arms and snuggled just like a baby, she tearfully recalled.

Kluge said Dublin enjoyed being around people and loved to prance and snuggle.

She added that they called the poodle their little raccoon and after they said goodbye to Dublin they saw a raccoon jump out from the bushes and look at them before crossing.

We knew it was a sign that he was ok, she explained.

The couple now wants accountability from the owner who allowed the vicious attack to occur.

Id really like him to take some ownership right now. We want someone to look in our eyes and say "I messed up." Its not going to bring our bubba back, but thats what we are looking for, Dietrick said.

The couple has posted flyers around their neighborhood pleading with the public for information on the owners identity.

The Santa Monica Police Department has also released the footage of the owner asking for the publics assistance in identifying him.

In the interest of public safety and animal welfare, we urge the pit bull’s owner—or anyone who knows them—to please come forward and contact us immediately, the department announced.

Santa Monica Lieutenant Lewis Gilmore told the LA Times that cases involving dog attacks are typically misdemeanor offenses including violations of leash laws, failure to control a dangerous dog, or failure to provide identifying information after a dog bite.

The Animal Control Unit is investigating the case and will determine the punishment once they identify the pit bulls owner.

DailyMail.com reached out to the Santa Monica Police Department for an update on the case but didnt immediately hear back.
