A parent has shared a bizarre encounter with a fellow hotel guest who brought their laptop to the pool then demanded kids dont splash it.

The Reddit user, going by the handle parothed28, posted her about her annoying exchange on the mildlyinfuriating subreddit, where she explained that her kids - who were playing in the pool - were asked not to make too big of ruckus.

The post, which got over 16,000 upvotes and well over 1,000 comments, also included a picture of the pool area. The kids faces are blurred out, but the photo shows how close the guests laptop is to the pool.

The floor around the pool is also shown to be incredibly wet, prompting some to ask why one would even bring a fragile, expensive electronic device there.

Given the entire floor looks wet...that seems like a risky proposal, one user wrote in a comment that received over 6,000 upvotes.

Another wrote: Who in their right mind makes the decision to sit in that humid noise tunnel anyway?

One other pointed out what many thought to be obvious: If you dont want your laptop getting splashed, dont take it somewhere where splashing is the norm.

Others disagreed that the laptop was even that close to the pool, arguing that if the kids were splashing that violently, the parents should step in.

That person was bananas to bring a laptop in there, but honestly, if your kid’s splashing is going that far outside the pool they should probably be reined in, someone wrote.

They continued: People should be able to sit on the chairs without being splashed repeatedly or be able to put their towels on the chairs without them getting soaked.

One user raised the possibility that the guest with the laptop was working remotely while watching their own kids.

Newsweek, the outlet that first reported on the viral Reddit thread, interviewed Michele Massa, a travel expert and CEO of Ibiza Summer Villas, who said the decision to bring electronics near water was a risk.

We advise customers not to bring any expensive water-averse equipment so close to our pools, as even when were careful, an accident can easily happen, Massa said.

Massa took a look at the photo included in the Reddit thread and concluded: There are dedicated areas in hotels where using laptops for work or personal reasons can be conducted safely and securely, but an indoor swimming area is not one of them.

He added: If you do decide to bring expensive equipment to the pool, I would just advise that it is insured accordingly as theres usually nothing we can do for you if it gets damaged.
