A nursery worker has been found guilty of assault for dragging a five-year-old boy across the floor.

Louise Kitchen, of Kilmarnock, Ayrshire, 38, was fined £700 for her act on July 31 last year at Marina View Nursery in nearby town Troon.

She also stood accused of manhandling two other children when she appeared at Ayr Sheriff Court last Friday - but these charges were not proven.

It was said she grabbed a three-year-old boy, also on July 31, and forcibly sat him on the floor and pulled a four-year-old girl, causing her to fall to the floor, on August 2.

Kitchen was immediately suspended and reported to police, after staff made the allegations about her behaviour to nursery management last summer.

She has now been sacked following her guilty verdict, as reported by GlasgowLive, with the nursery saying it felt appalled and let down by her.

One mother with a child at Marina View said parents were thankful for the nurserys quick response, saying: All the parents are delighted this is finally over.

Our children need to be protected at all times so thankfully justice has been served.

It has been a horrendous experience for everyone but at least no other family at the nursery will have to go through an ordeal like this now Louise Kitchen has been found guilty and sacked.

We can all move on with our lives safe in the knowledge that nobody will ever give her a job like this again and she will never be working with children in a professional capacity.

The staffs reports about Kitchen came on the same day the childcare facilitys new owner Claire McCrossin took over, who immediately took action.

Mrs McCrossin said she wanted to create an atmosphere at nursery where every one of the children feels welcomed, included, safe and radiates happiness.

The childcare facility thanked parents for their support and promised it will not hesitate to do whats best for the children.

It added that nursery management co-operated fully with police investigations and kept all the parents informed throughout.

A nursery spokesperson said: On the first day that its new sole owner took over the nursery, staff members reported their concerns about Louise Kitchen.

The new management team immediately suspended her, reported the matter to the police and co-operated fully throughout the investigation and kept all the parents informed.

Everyone at the nursery was appalled and let down by her actions and we are hugely grateful for the strong, ongoing support from the many families who have entrusted their children to our care.

The new management puts children as a top priority and will not hesitate to do what’s best for the children.
