Murder suspect, 38, is charged after man died in serious assault near primary school

Police officers called to an address in Brentwood, Essex shortly after 3.30pm on Thursday following reports of an assault, where a man was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

John Moore, 38, of Ingrave Road, Brentwood, appeared at Chelmsford Magistrates Court on Saturday morning charged with murder and has been remanded in custody.

He will appear at Basildon Crown Court on Tuesday for a plea and trial preparation hearing.

Emergency services, including the air ambulance service, responded to the incident in Ingrave Road, where a cordon remains on Saturday.

The assault took place 300 metres away from Hogarth Primary School, where the school day had ended just minutes before.

Police said the victims family has been informed and are being supported as a murder investigation continues.

Detective Inspector Lisa Hurrell said: Our work is continuing today and officers will also continue to provide a visible presence and reassurance within the community.

We urge members of the public to speak to officers if they have any concerns.

Whenever an incident of this nature occurs, no matter how rare they are, there is very understandable concern.

But we responded very quickly to what we understand to have been an isolated incident of violence and we are confident there is no ongoing threat to the wider community in Brentwood.

Yesterday, Det Insp Hurrell moved to reassure local residents and said: This incident took place on a busy residential street and I appreciate how concerning this must be for residents of Brentwood.
