The man in his 60s was filmed having handcuffs put on - as a knife lies discarded on the street just a few yards away on Remembrance Sunday morning.
A man died at the scene in East Street Market in Walworth, South London, yesterday morning. A man and woman were also injured and taken to hospital.
The normally bustling market remained cordoned off today as forensic officers searched the street, which was covered in squashed fruit and debris.
A local street seller claimed two of his customers were fatally stabbed from behind by a knifeman who was then wrestled to the ground by heroic traders.
Adam Kadirzadah, who sells fruit from his stall in East Street, has described how the culprit approached shoppers in the busy market from behind with a big knife.
According to the trader, two customers who were buying produce from his store were unaware of the thugs presence and fell to the ground after being knifed in the back.

The culprit then fled from the stall after carrying out an attack which Mr Kadirzadah described as really shocking and meant he couldnt sleep all night.
His fellow traders eventually managed to wrestle the suspect to the ground and waited for police to arrive and arrest him.
As soon as he left my stall, a lot of people were running after him to not let him go until the police came, Mr Kadirzadah told the BBC.
Luckily, the police came quick or it could have been more than 20 or 30 people.
Local shop worker Wasim Hussain had previously described how traders wrestled the suspect to the ground, telling the Sun: They just put him down, and they waited for the police.
It was the general public - they work in the market, most of them.
Meanwhile, traumatised witnesses at the market recounted the shocking ordeal, with one describing the unexpected incident as frightening.

They told MyLondon: When I arrived, the cordon was already in place, and everyone who visits the market regularly, including my partner and me, couldnt believe what had happened.
Its a very busy market, especially on weekends. I know stabbings happen every day in London but experiencing it close to home is frightening.
A father said he worries for the safety of his children after witnessing the aftermath of the stabbing.
Siraj, 46, who lives locally and did not wish to give her surname, was walking through East Street Market when he saw police cars and ambulances going past.
He followed them and found two injured people lying on the ground in the market.
It was terrifying, he said, adding he felt lucky the victims were not him or his children.
He added that the area had always been safe, but now he was worried.
I feel unsafe to send my kids to school now, he said.
On Monday, police tape continued to surround the market area, with debris scattered across the road.
