More than 10 fires have been devastating Jersey this week, prompting the National Weather Service (NWS) to issue a red flag warning in the Lower Hudson Valley, New York City, and Long Island.
Dry spells across the Northeast have exacerbated the drought and led to increased wildfire conditions.
Any fire that develops will catch and spread quickly. Outdoor burning is not recommended, NWS said.
A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are expected or occurring. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and dry fuels will create a significantly elevated fire growth potential.

The warning will stay in place until 6pm Saturday.
Large plumes of smoke have been since in the New Jersey skyline and residents are being warned to expect smoky conditions.
NJ residents can expect smoke conditions stemming from several large wildfires burning throughout the state to last for several days, The states Forest Fire Service said on X.
The entire state is currently under extreme fire danger, according to the Service.
The stench of Jersey fires can be smelled all the way in the Big Apple, NYC Emergency Management said on X.
Air quality in the city has been effected by the fires, although it currently remains at a moderate level. Those in sensitive groups should take precautions.

Another 75-acre fire broke out in Jersey on Saturday morning is Passaic County, threatening 55 structures, according to ABC 7 New York.
The Burlington and Camden counties fire, known as the Bethany Run Wildfire, has been sending up huge plumes of smoke since Thursday night.
The fire was 90 percent contained as of Friday and scorching 360 acres, according to Fox 29. Twelve homes were evacuated.
The Gloucester County fire is about 50 percent contained and has burned through 133 acres, according to ABC 7.
