Major pizza chain recalls popular menu item over contamination fears

An urgent product recall has been issued by a major pizza chain over fears of contaminated popular dips that could potentially cause a lethal allergic reaction.

An urgent product recall has been issued by a major pizza chain over fears of contaminated popular dips that could potentially cause a lethal allergic reaction.

Two products have been recalled over fears they could contain trace amounts of peanuts.

The major pizza chain, which has more than 450 branches across the UK, has urged anyone with a nut allergy to dispose of the items.

Even traces of peanuts are enough to send some people into anaphylactic shock, which could kill them.

Papa Johns Garlic and Herb Dip as well as their Vegan Ranch Dressing have been pulled from sale over safety fears.

A Papa Johns spokesman said: At Papa Johns, customer safety is our top priority.

Certain batches of our Garlic and Herb Dip and our Vegan Ranch Dressing may contain traces of peanuts. Our 25g dips are included with pizzas, and we recently introduced a 100g version. If you have a peanut allergy, please do not consume these dips and dispose of them.

Our Vegan Ranch Dressing, used on products, may also contain traces of peanuts. If you have a peanut allergy, please avoid these items.

We are working quickly to resolve this issue. In the meantime, we will replace the Garlic and Herb Dip with our Special Garlic Dip, which is unaffected.

For any questions or concerns, please contact us at info@papajohns.co.uk.

We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience and thank you for your understanding.

It comes after rival pizza chain Dominos was forced to recall their Garlic and Herb and Honey and Mustard dips last month after customers complained of having an itchy mouth.

The dips contained ingredients from family-owned spice company FGS Ingredients Ltd in Leicester, which prides itself on having the highest standard of quality.

Other products, including dips from Aldi and sandwiches in Spar, were recalled as a result of contaminated mustard powder which might have been tainted with peanuts.

The FSA said: FGS Ingredients Ltd is recalling several products containing mustard powder because they may contain peanuts.

This means these products are a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy to peanuts.

These products are sold under several different brand names at several different retail stores.

An email from the group to customers advised that both 100g pots and the smaller 25g pots that come with pizzas were potentially contaminated.

The notice read: At Dominos Pizza, the quality of our products and the safety of our customers is the highest priority, particularly when it comes to allergens.

We have become aware that some of our Garlic and Herb dip and Honey and Mustard dip may contain traces of peanut.

If you do have a peanut allergy, please dispose of the dips and do not consume them. If you do not have a peanut allergy, no further action is required.

Dominos said it had discovered traces of peanuts in its garlic and herb dip and honey and mustard dip

We are sorry for any concern and inconvenience this issue may cause.

A spokesperson for Dominos said: At the weekend, we discovered that some batches of Dominos Pizza Garlic & Herb and Honey & Mustard dips contained traces of peanut which could pose a risk for people with peanut allergies.

We have withdrawn all these dips from sale, and ask any customers who have people in their household with peanut allergies not to consume and instead dispose of any of these dips that they have at home.

Dominos takes food safety very seriously and we are working urgently with our supplier to understand how this happened and ensure it doesnt happen again.

There will be disruption to the supply of dips in the coming days while we wait for new supplies to arrive and appreciate customers understanding during this time.
