JK Rowling says she may rent a bus to run her own Harry Potter tourist tour after becoming fed up with the guff on existing excursions

JK Rowling has said she is considering renting a bus to run her own Harry Potter tour after becoming fed up with guff being peddled on existing versions.

JK Rowling has said she is considering renting a bus to run her own Harry Potter tour after becoming fed up with guff being peddled on existing versions.

The bestselling author took issue with some of the tales being told on one tour of Edinburgh inspired by her book series, suggesting they need to be debunked.

Scotlands capital is a hub for fans of the fantasy stories as it is where Ms Rowling wrote much of the early versions, with many locations in the city inspiring her stories, settings and characters.

The 59-year-old seems to want to refute the nonsense herself by setting up an official tour in aid of charity.

She posted on X: Today I heard a tale of the guff claimed as fact on a "Potter tour" of Edinburgh, and now Im considering hiring a bus and auctioning places on it for charity and spending an afternoon debunking the nonsense and pointing out bits no-one knows and then we could all go to the pub.

Rowling - who has become a source of controversy in recent years thanks to her gender-critical views which have often been described as transphobic - has clearly grown sick and tired of fans complaints about other tours claims.

Whilst seemingly just a vague idea put forward as a joke, Rowlings hypothetical plan drew attention from fans the world over.

Racking up over 26,000 likes, her post saw more than 1,600 comments from fans clamouring for the author to bring the idea to life.

One X user responded: Take my money!

Someone else said: This would be the most popular tour in history.

Pre-book me on Seat 1A please, where the champagne is served, added another.

One fan suggested Ms Rowling dress up in disguise to go on one of the offending tours and rudely correct the guide anytime they are wrong.

A few hidden cameras and its a series on Netflix, they joked.

Another commented: Ive fallen for the odd bit of Potter guff, especially the one about Tom Riddles grave being in Greyfriars Kirkyard. Still, it is fun to walk around a graveyard.

The author replied to confirm she has never seen the  grave of one Thomas Riddell which is touted as her inspiration for her character with a similar name, which comes from an anagram of Lord Voldemort.

However, she did tease: But Ive never pointed out the church plaque I genuinely got the name Lockhart from.
