A prisoner decapitated his cellmate as part of Satanic ritual at a prison in Chile.

The grisly discovery was made on Monday morning when guards were conducting a scheduled morning inmate count at the Concepción Penitentiary Center in Concepción.

Guards found the body of Vincent González, 27, on his bed and his head on top of a bible while the killer, Diego Valdes, 41, sat nearby.

Valdes used Gonzálezs own blood to scribble Satanic symbols, including 666 on the cell wall.

Prison officials told Chilean newspaper La Tercera that Valdes explained that the devil had entered him, and the devil had taken possession of him.

Valdes reportedly strangled González before he used two hand-made sharp objects to decapitate him.

There was no noise that gave any indication of what had happened, an official said.

Felipe Rivera, a lawyer representing the victim’s family, revealed that González was granted a jail transfer in March as “a security measure.”

He was scheduled to appear before prison officials Wednesday to finalize the procedure.

Rivera added that González accepted an invitation to become Valdes’ cellmate because his killer was shunned by other inmates.

“The same condemned people did not approach him because they considered him a strange person,” he said. “Nobody liked him.”

González was serving a two-prison sentence for multiple charges.

A court had previously found him guilty in 2022 and sentenced him to 10 years for invading the home of a former law enforcement official in his hometown of Arica.

He and his accomplices threatened the official and his family and escaped with a safe containing money and two firearms in 2021.

He was also sentenced to five years for drugs and firearm possession.

In April, an Arica court found Valdes guilty of murdering a rival gang member in February 2022 and sentenced him to 16 years.

While in jail, Valdes was cited for at least 15 incidents, including fighting and manufacturing and carrying hand-made bladed objects.

Justice and Human Rights Minister, Jaime Gajardo, said authorities had complete control of all the jails in the country.

This is a serious and rather unprecedented event in the Chilean penitentiary system, which occurs in a prison that is not overcrowded, Gajardo said.

For this reason, measures must be reinforced so that this does not happen again in any other prison in our country.
