Horror as man stabbed in back outside Sydney light rail station

A man has been stabbed in the back while walking outside a light rail in Sydney.

A man has been stabbed in the back while walking outside a light rail in Sydney.

Emergency services were called to Darling Road in Haymarket about 4.20pm on Sunday after reports of an assault.

Police were told a 22-year-old man was walking near the Chinatown light rail stop when he was stabbed in the back.

A man allegedly fled the scene and ran towards Darling Drive.

Paramedics treated the 22-year-old at the scene.

He was then taken to St Vincents Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

A crime scene has been established and an investigation launched into the incident.

Police are hoping to speak with a man they believe may be able to assist in the investigation.

The man is described as being about 40 or 50-years-old of Mediterranean, Middle Eastern or caucasian appearance.

He is about 170cm tall of medium build with balding, dark hair and a short beard.

He was wearing a dark top, blue or black pants with white writing on the front and white joggers.

Police have urged anyone with information to come forward.
