The FDA has issued a recall for over 4,000 bags of a popular cheese sold at Aldi over fears of possible metal contamination.
Aldis Happy Farms Colby Jack shredded cheese has been recalled after fragments of stainless steel were reportedly found in the product.
The cheese is only being recalled in four states, Connecticut, Michigan, Ohio and Pennsylvania.
The move was initiated by the manufacturer, Great Lakes Cheese Co. Inc., on February 15, which prompted the FDA to issue a recall notice on March 19, per AllRecipes.com.
The FDA alert was a Class II category recall, the second most severe level, which means the issue could cause temporary or reversible consequences.
Customers who think they may have bought the recalled cheese are urged to check if the batch number is 8679653, the item number is 170374, or the UPC number is 4061463330840.
Best before dates on the potentially contaminated products are either July 13 or July 14.
Although many of the cheese bags will have been pulled from shelves since the recall was initiated over a month ago, customers who have the recalled products can exchange them in an Aldi store for a refund or replacement.

The Colby Jack cheese bag recall is the second recall Great Lakes Cheese Co. Inc has made this year, although the previous recall was not over contamination fears.
The company previously issued a market withdrawal of its Our Family American Cheese Slices over a flavor discrepancy.
Aldi did not immediately respond to a request for comment when contacted by DailyMail.com.
This weeks recall comes just days after Whole Food was also subjected to a similar action from the FDA over one of its most popular frozen products.
The 365 Whole Foods Market Small Bites Macaroni & Cheese, which go for $5 a box, were found to potentially contain undeclared eggs and meat ingredients, according to the FDA.
People who have allergies to eggs run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product, the alert said.

The FDA issued the recall after receiving a complaint that the product contained meat and was not a macaroni and cheese bite, as authorities warned the affected products were sold nationwide.
The effect boxes manufactured by C.H. Guenther & Son LLC of San Antonio, Texas, have the UPC Code: 99482499709.
The FDA advised that the macaroni and cheese bites purchased between February 6 and March 11 with a best-by-date of November 25 should be throw out.
