EXCLUSIVEMcDonalds fans fume about popular item on the menu as the fast food giant releases statement

McDonald’s fans are getting all whipped up about the McFlurry – amid claims the fast food giant has stopped stirring it.

McDonald’s fans are getting all whipped up about the McFlurry – amid claims the fast food giant has stopped stirring it.

Customers have noticed that the sweet treat, which used to come machine-blended with bits of Oreo, M&Ms or other candy, is now just a dollop of soft-serve ice cream with a scoop of toppings.

Some have speculated the decision to ditch plastic spoons means they can no longer whip the dessert.

But McDonald’s has insisted it SHOULD still come mixed – and vowed to ‘remind’ staff about the importance of ‘flurrying’ the McFlurry.

Reddit user Gary-TeaDrinker ranted: ‘Why do they no longer bother mixing it? They have all the kit there, but just fill a cup with ice cream, then chuck some Oreo (or whatever other flavour you’ve ordered) on top and serve it. Lazy sods!’

Others complained that once they’ve eaten the top layer of their McFlurry, all that’s left is bland vanilla ice cream – once described by a US food critic as ‘closer to caulk [sealant] than dairy’.

Another customer wrote on the Reddit forum Mildly Infuriating: ‘Erm, is McDonald’s not mixing McFlurries any more?’

Someone else replied: ‘Nah. It’s the new non-plastic spoons. They can’t be used to mix.’

When the McFlurry first emerged in 1997, it came with a unique square-handled plastic spoon which clipped into a McDonald’s blending machine.

The spoon would then be used as spindle to vigorously mix the ice cream with the toppings, breaking up M&Ms and other ingredients into little pieces.

The product’s slogan was ‘Love It To Bits’ in reference to the blended consistency.

However, the McFlurry spoon was phased out last year as McDonald’s sought more sustainable alternatives.

Some have speculated that the death of the McFlurrys unique plastic spoon is to blame for the unblended desserts

Some have speculated that the death of the McFlurrys unique plastic spoon is to blame for the unblended desserts

Today they are served with paper-based spoons, which some have complained start to disintegrate before the dessert is finished.

Fans are concerned it has led to a lesser McFlurry.

One was so incensed they posted about the issue on the McDonald’s Employees forum on Reddit, in a bid to get answers from insiders.

They wrote: ‘Every time I order a McFlurry all the toppings are on top or near the top of the ice cream. Which means unless I mix it with my spoon (which can get messy), all that’s left is plain vanilla ice cream when I’m not even halfway done.

‘I go to places like DQ and Sonic and they know how to evenly disperse the toppings throughout the ice cream. Why can’t McDonald’s do that?’

Several workers chimed in to say it was often to stop customers complaining about a lack of toppings.

One wrote: ‘At my store it is because, more often than not, if we mix it the correct way, the customer will assume we barely put anything in it.

‘When properly mixed, you dont have it all on the top like you said, so customers take that to mean that we didnt put hardly any in there.’

Another added: ‘I have this happen all the time. Customers who order extra toppings in particular, I purposefully dont blend correctly, because if the toppings arent visibly piled on top of the McFlurry they get an attitude and assume it isnt correct.’

In a small-scale investigation by Mail Online, we looked McFlurries from three different branches of McDonald’s in London, one in Brighton, East Sussex, and two in the Midlands.

We found that none of them had been blended correctly, or even stirred by hand.

A spokesman for McDonald’s UK said action would be taken to ensure a more consistent McFlurry experience for customers.

They said: ‘All of our McFlurry flavours are mixed by our McFlurry machines. We recently replaced the single-use plastic spoons with paper spoons, and we now use a reusable version for mixing.

‘This change does not impact the machines ability to mix the product.

‘Our restaurant teams receive ongoing training to ensure that all our products meet our high standards, and they will be reminded of the importance of ensuring that every McFlurry served meets the high standards our customers expect.
