EXCLUSIVE Is your name dying out? Search tool reveals American names going extinct and the most popular in every state

Nicholas and Tyler were extremely popular names for American boys in the 1990s – but both are now going extinct, DailyMail.

Nicholas and Tyler were extremely popular names for American boys in the 1990s – but both are now going extinct, DailyMail.coms new search tool reveals.

Similarly for girls, once-ubiquitous names such as Jessica and Samantha no longer feature in the top 100 list.

Our search tool, powered with Social Security Administration (SSA) statistics dating back to 1995, shows whether your name is soaring or sinking in popularity.

It allows you to compare up to five names against each other, illustrating how yours fares against loved ones and even celebrities.

Liam topped the charts again in 2023 for boys, followed by Noah, Oliver and James.

It marked the seventh consecutive year Liam ranked first, with 20,802 namings – the equivalent of slightly more than one in every 100 baby boys getting that moniker.

Liam, which did not break the top 50 list until the 2010s, replaced Noah at the top in 2017.

Irish actor Liam Neeson and the late One Direction star Liam Payne may have fueled the rise, experts say.

Olivia (15,270), meanwhile, was in pole for girls for the sixth year in a row.

Similarly with Liam, celebrities that may have inspired Olivias popularity include late Grease star Olivia Newton-John and singer Olivia Rodrigo.

Emma and Charlotte rounded out the top three for girls.

Only one new name appeared in the top 10 for either gender, with Mateo entering the list for the first time at 6th – up from 11th.

Back in 1995, Mateo wasnt even in the top 100, even in the top 1,000.

Although names such as James and Charlotte have withstood the test of time, social media stars have influenced new parents name choices more than ever.

Kaeli was the fastest-rising girls name last year, jumping 1,692 spots to 678th.

Analysts said parents must have really smashed the like button for Kaeli McEwen, a YouTube and TikTok influencer with nearly 15million followers combined across all platforms. The 24-year-old specializes in Clean Girl content, which focuses on organizing and cleaning spaces.

Fellow social media star Wyatt Eiden, who has amassed more than 3million followers by setting people he meets challenges to win money, was said to be behind the rise in boys called Eiden.

Eiden featured third on the list of fastest-rising names for boys, climbing over 600 ranking places year-on-year to 813th.

The biggest mover for boys was Izael, which leapt 1,666 spots in the table to 806th.

Chozen saw the second-biggest increase between 2022 and 2023. The name comes from Japanese actor YuJi Okumotos role of Chozen Toguchi in the hit Netflix show Cobra Kai.

The SSA data includes almost 40million births registered between 1995 and 2023.
