He famously played the young Obi-Wan Kenobi in the iconic Star Wars blockbusters and delighted fans when he returned to the role for TV.

Now Ewan McGregor has said he would love to do more shows in the iconic part and is willing to let bosses use modern technology to make him appear younger.

The 53-year-old reprised the role for the character’s spin off Disney+ TV show in 2022.

That performance came 25 years after McGregor first portrayed the Jedi master in 1999’s The Phantom Menace alongside Hayden Christensen, who played Anakin Skywalker and Darth Vader.

And it seems that the star is keen to delve further into the character’s story - even if it meant using CGI technology to give him a more youthful appearance.

Discussing the role at the LA Comic Con, McGregor said he would like to film parts of Kenobi’s past that have so-far only been covered in cartoon series The Clone Wars.

He said: ‘I would quite like to wear that armour from The Clone Wars. That would be something that I would enjoy.

‘I was figuring it out with someone in the autograph queue but that would mean I would have to be younger.’

He then responded to the crowd in LA as they appeared to suggest he still looked young enough.

He said: ‘Maybe just trim the beard a bit? Otherwise it’s doing the de-ageing, having the dots on your face for three months.

‘But, you know, I’ll do it, I don’t care. That way Hayden and I can really get back together again.’

McGregor also hinted that studio bosses are considering a new show that would cover parts of Kenobi’s story - between the end of the TV show and Sir Alec Guinness’ first appearance in Star Wars.

He said: ‘Between the end of Obi Wan Kenobi and Alec Guinness there’s got to be another few stories in there.

‘And we are definitely exploring that, I think.’

McGregor already has some experience of being subjected to the filming requirements needed for studios to use de-ageing technology.

In a behind-the-scenes documentary on the TV show he joked about producers struggling to get rid of his wrinkles for flashback scenes.

He said: ‘I’m standing with dots on my face, there’s the de-ageing people in the background going “what are we going to do”.’

During the comic con appearance McGregor also spoke about the emotional moment he unveiled his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and addressed the notable absence of his daughter Esther, 22, at the event last month.

McGregor attended the ceremony with his second wife Mary Elizabeth-Winstead, 39, their toddler son Laurie and his daughters Clara, 27, Jamyan, 23, and Anouk, 13, from his previous marriage to singer Eve Mavrakis, 58.

McGregor said: ‘The best thing was I had all my family there.,’ before adding: ‘Esther, my daughter, was not able to be there because she was shooting.

‘She’s acting in a series in Canada at the time so she was not able to be there.

‘That was a great shame because other than that I had all my kids there. It was a real family day. It was nice.’

Esther, 22, starred alongside her father as Tetha Grig in the Obi-Wan Kenobi TV show in 2022.

She is also a model and appeared in campaigns for brands such as Miu Miu, Celine and in 2018, appeared in a Fendi ad with her older sister, Clara.

On Saturday, she attended a special screening in New York for new film Babygirl, starring Nicole Kidman.

McGregor posed for photos with Kidman at the event 23 years after her father starred alongside the Australian actress in Moulin Rouge.
