A $1 million yacht in California sank after fireworks that were brought on the 100-foot-long luxury boat exploded causing a massive fire to break out.

The Admiral, valued at $985,000, was docked in Los Angeles Marina del Rey when officials responded to reports of a fire at 8:33 pm on Wednesday.

Two people were on board but managed to evacuate with one sustaining a cut arm, the LA County Fire Department said.

The fireworks explosion also yacht lit up some of the nearly 1,000 rounds of unspent ammunition that were on board the vessel as well as fireworks, the department added, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Onlookers heard sounds of loud explosions and saw smoke and flames reaching 20 to 30 feet in the air from the fire.

One user on X posted a video of the smoke across the Marina and said: Large boat fire in Marina del Rey... there are loud popping sounds - looked like it could be fireworks (saw one shoot off above the building.)

Another asked: Anyone know whats happening at the marina? In Marina del Rey. I heard explosions, Looks like a big yacht.

Fox 11 Los Angeles released a video showing fireworks shooting off above the yacht as firefighters attempted to extinguish the fire.

Once the worst of the fire was contained, the boat began listing to the side while flames could be seen below its deck.

The yacht then became almost completely submerged in the Marina by 11 pm after tipping over into the water.

The following morning, a Coast Guard representative said they are concentrated on efforts to contain the fuel and other hazardous materials that spilled into the water, reported CBS News

What we do know is that the vessel capacity was 6,000 gallons. We do know that they fueled up with 4,000 gallons of diesel, but we still do not know how much fuel discharged out into the environment and how much remains still in the vessel, Lt. Cmdr. Omar Borges of the US Coast Guard told the publication.

Once the yacht had sank, crews began a booming operation to contain any foam sprayed from firefighters or fuel that leaked from the yacht, the outlet reported.

The boat was reported to be holding 4,000 gallons of diesel, which the Coast Guard has been attempting to clean up with no reports of harmed wildlife

The outlet reported that no fumes have been detected in the air and officials have found no evidence of any harm to wildlife.

So far, air readings have shown no flammable fumes in the air, and it is not hazardous for locals to breathe, the Coast Guard added.

According to Boat International, the luxury yacht was delivered in 1986 and designed by Broward Marine who designed 144 yachts and created the naval architecture for 147 yachts.

The yacht has four cabins, including a master suite, and is equipped with flat-screen televisions, entertainment centers and en suite facilities, and can accommodate up to ten guests and three crew members.

The Admiral went on sale in 2018 for an asking price of $985,000.
