The crowds at Tim Walzs campaign event in Grand Rapids, MI broke into chants of were not eating cats as Kamala Harris running mate took aim at Donald Trump.

The chant refers to the line from Donald Trump during the debate where he brought up a false claim about immigrants when he said theyre eating the cats.

The chant started when Walz was talking about the debate Tuesday and said of Trump he said a lot of weird stuff too, so Im just going to say that.

You tell me you had this on your BINGO card? "And theyre eating cats," Walz added including the Trump quote.

The supporters started chanting back were not eating cats in a similar way they chant were not going back at numerous rallies.

Ah Michigan, we love you, Walz laughed.

The Minnesota started off his speech by giving a shout out to his fellow cat owner - megastar Taylor Swift, who endorsed the Harris-Walz tickets after Tuesday night debate concluded against former Prseident Donald Trump.

Walz said he and Harris couldnt be more excited to have the superstars support.

And look, Its not as if I didnt warn these guys a few months ago, Walz joked. You mess with cat people, and you will find out, you will find out. And they did.

Beautiful strategy there picking on the cat people, he added.

Swift signed her endorsement Childless Cat Lady - a dig at Trumps running mate, Ohio Sen. J.D. Vance, who used the phrase to mock Democratic voters.

Walz kicked off the event - which was attended by Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer - by discussing Tuesday nights debate.

None of us were surprised at that happened there, he said, commending his running mates performance. And no put intended, from the get-go she had the upper hand.

That was a reference to how Harris marched up to Trump at the beginning of the debate to shake his hand.

Look, it says something about character, the Minnesota governor continued.

Walz said he fully supported Harris signing on to do another debate against Trump.

I said, hell, every day we should do another one, he told the crowd.

On Thursday Trump posted to his Truth Social website there will be no third debate.

Trumps first debate was the CNN one against President Joe Biden in late June that prompted the 81-year-old president to exit the race.

There had been talk of NBC News and Fox News hosting additional debates but the Republican nominee nixed that idea, claiming it was clear Harris only wanted another debate because she lost onstage Tuesday.

Most polls and betting markets showed that Americans believed Harris to be the winner that night.

Give him a little break, Walz said. That one left a mark.

His true colors were out there, Walz continued. Not just his makeup.

Walz added that Trump came across as a nearly 80-year-old man shaking his fist at the clouds.

The Minnesota governor spend time in Michigan as Harris held two rallies Thursday in North Carolina - a state Trump barely won over Biden in 2020.

She heads to the key swing state of Pennsylvania Friday for a campaign appearance in Johnstown and a rally in Wilkes-Barre.
