A 62-year-old man reported missing at Tinaroo Dam in Yungaburra, south of Cairns, on April 13 has been found dead following a large-scale search.
A 62-year-old man reported missing at Tinaroo Dam in Yungaburra, south of Cairns, on April 13 has been found dead following a large-scale search.
Emergency services were alerted around 3:30pm on Sunday after the man failed to resurface while swimming out to assist two children on kayaks.
Despite immediate efforts, he could not be located, prompting a large-scale search operation.
The search continued until approximately 8:00pm last night and resumed at first light this morning.
Resources deployed included police on foot, Cairns Water Police, State Emergency Service (SES) volunteers, the Queensland Police Dive Squad, QGAIR Rescue 510 helicopter, and Queensland Fire and Emergency Services Swift Water Rescue crews.
Police have confirmed the man’s death is not being treated as suspicious.
A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
Support services have been made available to the man’s family during this difficult time.
