BREAKING NEWS Armed woman is shot by cops after dramatic chase in Mulgrave

A woman has been shot by police during a dramatic confrontation in Melbourne. 

The 29-year-old woman was allegedly armed with a gun when she was stopped by officers on Police Road in Mulgrave, in the citys southeast, at 5.30am on Friday. 

Victoria Police said the woman had been inside a car that had been evading police before it was intercepted. 

The woman was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening upper body injuries. 

She remains under police guard. 

A 27-year-old Noble Park man was also arrested at the scene.

Victoria Police said the exact circumstances of the incident are still to be determined.

An investigation into the matter is underway with oversight by Professional Standards Command, as is standard practice when a police firearm is discharged, police said in a statement.
