A bouncer at a popular London nightclub has been arrested and charged after a woman was allegedly raped in the vicinity of the venue.

Heaven, in Charing Cross, wil be closed for up to 28 days following the incident which happened on November 1, Westminster City Council confirmed.

In a statement they said that earlier today a licensing hearing ruled the licence for the nightclub off Villiers Street should be suspended, following a request from the Met Police and considering evidence from the force and the operator.

This is until a full hearing can take in December where the police and venue management will be able to present new evidence.

A member of the security team has been arrested and charged since the incident.

He is on remand in prison.

A statement from Westminster City Council said: Following a request from the Metropolitan Police, and considering evidence from both the police and the operator, the councils licensing committee has decided to suspend Heavens licence for 28 days.

We recognise this venues cultural significance but the committee agreed this step is necessary to prevent serious crime and protect the public. This follows a report of an alleged rape made to police on Friday, 1 November.

A full licensing hearing will be held in December where both the police and venue management will have the opportunity to present new evidence.

This case is currently subject of an ongoing police investigation, and we are unable to comment further at this stage
