Actress reveals shocking injuries after being attacked by rabid dogs

A Brazilian actress was viciously attacked by a pack of rabid stray dogs while out on a morning run.

Leticia Salles was recording herself when she was suddenly ambushed by five dogs on a beachfront in the southeastern city of Maricá.

The soap opera actress was bitten multiple times on her legs before a bystanders shouts scared the dogs away.

Salles recalled in an Instagram Story post that she was hearing the dogs barking close to her before she turned around and saw them rushing towards her.

My reaction was to stop. I was scared, she said. I only felt bites behind me, several scratches, the dog jumping, several scratches, and being bitten.

Salles, who is know for her role in Vai na Fé and Pantanal, eventually made it back to her car and drove to a nearby hospital, where she was administered a shot for rabies.

Look at the hole in the shorts, my hand almost fits in there, with the blood still on it, she said. It looks like a crime scene, like a scene from a movie.

I started laughing because I found the situation with me very funny, she added. I said, Its not possible, its something that only happens to me.

Salles said that the only reservations she had about running in the streets was being mugged.

But bitten on the butt by stray dogs and ending up in the emergency room, I didnt expect it, she said.

Salles, who ran in the 2024 New York City Marathon, learned from doctors and nurses at the hospital that other people had been attacked by dogs around the beach. 

Children bitten by dogs had their skins disfigured.

Salles is now calling on Maricá authorities to remove the stray dogs off the streets.    

The dogs are not to blame, first of all. They need to be taken away from that place and taken to an appropriate place, she said. They cannot be there, loose and attacking people.

There were reports of children who arrived there without their skin, disfigured. What is this, people? This cannot be normal, Salles said. This has been happening for a long time. So, what is needed for this to be resolved?
