ACT child passes out and is rushed to hospital after allegedly eating cannabis-laced gummies

A child has been rushed to hospital after allegedly eating cannabis gummies, sparking an urgent warning to parents.

A child has been rushed to hospital after allegedly eating cannabis gummies, sparking an urgent warning to parents.

The child collapsed and fell in and out of consciousness before vomiting after allegedly consuming the illicit gummies in the ACT last month.

Police allege the gummies were purchased on social media and last week arrested a man, 24, they alleged sold the drug-laced product.

He has since been charged with drug and vape trafficking.

Following analysis of evidence collected, we are aware that the man we allege is responsible for the supply of these gummies had conducted 150 deals between Tuesday and Thursday last week, most of which were to school aged children, ACT Inspector Nigel Booth said in a statement.

Given the reckless way these gummies are being produced, the potency and ingredients of the gummies could be anything.

Officers arrested the man, identified as Vietnamese national Phuc Tran by The Canberra Times, in a blue Hyundai Elantra after he was allegedly observed exchanging goods in multiple locations across the ACT.

Many of the deals were allegedly made with children wearing school uniforms.

ACT police accuse Tran of the alleged manufacture of drugs in his home and the alleged supply of vapes and drugs to teenagers in ACT.

Police searched his vehicle and his home in the Canberra suburb of Franklin.

They allege they found more than 600 vapes, hundreds of dollars in cash, cannabis plants, and litres of a green liquid believed to contain cannabis in the home.

Police believe the 24-year-old is responsible for a significant volume of illegal vape and cannabis distribution.

His bank statements across a recent three-day period allegedly showed deposits totalling almost $6,500.

Tran is due to reappear in court next week, and has not yet entered a plea.

Police expressed fears about young members of the community as a result of the discovery of the gummies.

They fear drugs still circulating in the community could be highly toxic.

Police are very concerned as we believe that people, including children, are still in possession of these gummies, Inspector Booth added.

We would encourage parents to speak to their children and discuss the potentially harmful impacts that these drugs can pose. If you have them – hand them into your closest police station.

Police allege the scheme operated as a dial-a-dealer mobile-based delivery service with the alleged payments made via a tap credit card system.
