But not all of Sir Keir Starmers new ministers are fans of the 17-year-old tabby who roams the streets of power. Scottish Secretary Ian Murray has branded Larry as a little s***, telling a dinner in Glasgow that he is the most miserable animal youll ever meet in your life.

His words come as a blow to the Chief Mousers status in Downing Street, having already been subject to competition from a new Siberian kitten recently adopted by the Prime Minister and his family.

We were initially like kids in a sweet shop, Mr Murray said of Labours election celebrations.

We walked to Downing Street really excited and all we wanted to do was... try and get a picture with Larry the cat. And without putting too fine a point on it, Larry the cat is a little s***. So none of us got a picture.

Larry the cat is the most miserable animal youll ever meet in your life. Im not surprised given who hes had to live with for the last ten years.
