Angela Zamora, 19, was left hospitalized by the savage beating right outside her home in Wendover.

Her family say the attack on September 26 was over an ex-boyfriend.

She is trained to do bodily damage to people, Zamora told ABC4.com. She is a trained MMA fighter, and so honestly I couldnt defend myself. I was defenseless.

But the suspect, who is from Nevada, has been allowed to walk the streets freely after being charged with a Class B misdemeanor.

The police have told us that just because she is a minor, she cant face the consequences just yet, Zamoras father Enrique Zamora said.

This is what is infuriating us, is that how could she cross state lines and come and beat up our daughter and not face consequences? .

He and Zamoras mom Claudia Perez are now eying up a lawsuit.

We are going to do everything in our power to get the justice she deserves no matter what it takes, they said.

Zamoras friend also revealed she has been left so scared for her safety she has taken out a restraining order.

I could have got beaten up, too, she said. It could be me in the hospital, and that is a really terrifying thought.

Zamora recalled how she was set upon while walking to her car.

I came inside my house, I thought I got what I needed, and once I was going outside back to my car — and then thats when I saw her, she said.

I asked her, What are you doing here, she wouldnt reply. And thats when I got distracted.

She started attacking me and punching me, and that was to her advantage.

Her sister Chantal said that Zamora has never been in a fight before.

She has never been in an altercation with anybody. Thats not the kind of person she is, she said.

Defense attorney Clayton Simms explained that the suspects age and the fact it was a fight can muddy the waters when it comes to prosecution.

An aggravated assault is the level of injury. So, you can have a fight where no one is injured, which is a misdemeanor assault, Simms said.

An aggravated assault is when a weapon is used and there is serious bodily injury. So, the seriousness of the assault charge is based on the level of injury.

But he said that someone with a fighting background is similar to possessing a deadly weapon.

Essentially, their skills make them a person who is dangerous, and they have the ability to control the fight.

Outside of criminal charges, the 17-year-old could still face a civil lawsuit for damages she inflicted such as pain and suffering or for hospital bills.
