The arrests were made in an early morning raid on a sprawling property in the LaSalle neighborhood of Montreal, Canada, aimed at rooting out organized crime

It bears an uncanny resemblance to the residence of Tony Soprano, the fictional New Jersey mob boss played by James Gandolfini in the acclaimed HBO show.

Francis Renaud, the head of Montreal police’s organized crime unit, said this week that the sting operation came at the conclusion of an extensive criminal investigation in Montreal.

The arrested group included six men aged between 34 and 59 and a 44-year-old woman, reports CTV News

Renaud hailed the operation as a major step forward in the citys efforts to bring down crime, and said LaSalle is known for its ties to organized criminal organizations.

It’s pretty special because the [Italian] organized crime in LaSalle, in general, are not afraid to mix with other organized crime that we know, the bikers, the Irish, to make their business go on – and they’re getting along, he said.

That’s the special effect of LaSalle.

Five of the arrested group are set to face charges including gangsterism, drug trafficking and drug possession, officials said.

Renaud said the charges of gangsterism, also known as committing offenses to benefit a criminal organization, come after cops seized a cache of drugs and guns from the group.

He said in total, Montreal authorities had confiscated 32kg of cocaine, 4kg of meth, and 12 guns.

At least $2.2 million in cash was also seized from the group, Renaud said.

Those totals also included gains from previous raids in January and May 2024 that led cops to find more cash, drugs and guns linked to the group.

Cops reportedly descended on the LaSalle property this week in the early hours of the morning, and over 40 police officers were involved in the raid.

In the raid in May, Montreal police said four people, three men and a woman aged 32 to 58, were arrested as 5kg of cocaine and a cache of guns were found in another home in LaSalle.

Officials said the wide-ranging organized crime operation was launched in August 2023 and named Americano.

Following the raid in May, officials said Americano would continue in several phases.

The first phase consists of disrupting criminal activities by conducting searches, officials said in a statement.

Arrests are expected, as well as indictments within the dismantled network, based in particular on evidence gathered during the investigation initiated in August 2023. The Antigang unit intends to submit a complete investigation file to the Director of Criminal and Penal Prosecutions.
