Donald Trump promised the animal shooter who killed two National Guard members outside the White House will pay a very steep price.

The president vowed revenge shortly after the horror shooting unfolded near the White House on Wednesday.

Trump, who is in Florida for the Thanksgiving holiday issued the statement shortly after news broke the servicemen had been critically injured.

West Virginia Governor Patrick Morrisey has since confirmed the officers tragically succumbed to their injuries. 

DC police confirmed one suspect is custody. Sources told the Associated Press that the suspect was also shot and has injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.

Panicked tourists were forced to flee for their lives shortly after shots rang out at around 2.30pm.

Tim Moye, 48, told The New York Times he was visiting his son, who works in the White House, when he heard five shots ring out.

'I knew right away it was shooting. I live in Albany, Georgia, and we hear that all the time,' he said.

'I just saw a bunch of people start running as soon as those shots came.'

Two West Virginia National Guard soldiers killed

West Virginian Governor Patrick Morrisey confirmed that two member's of his state's National Guard were killed in the shooting outside the White House.

'It is with great sorrow that we can confirm both members of the West Virginia National Guard who were shot earlier today in Washington, DC have passed away from their injuries,' he said on X.

'These brave West Virginians lost their lives in the service of their country. We are in ongoing contact with federal officials as the investigation continues. Our entire state grieves with their families, their loved ones, and the Guard community. West Virginia will never forget their service or their sacrifice, and we will demand full accountability for this horrific act.'

FBI assisting with White House shooting investigation

FBI Director Kash Patel confirmed the agency is assisting with shooting investigation of two National Guard members outside the White House.

'FBI is engaged and assisting with the investigation in Washington, DC, after National Guard members were shot this afternoon,' Patel wrote on X.

'Please pray for them and we will update with more information as we are able.'

FAA halts flights for emergency response

The FAA issued a ground stop at Reagan National Airport for emergency aircrafts responding to the White House shooting.

'The FAA temporarily paused arrivals into Reagan Washington International Airport because of the locations of aircraft involved in responding to today’s shooting incident,' a spokesperson said. 'Normal operations have resumed.'

Trump says 'animal' shooter will pay 'very steep price'

Donald Trump, who is Florida for the Thanksgiving holiday, reacted to the shooting of two National Guard members outside the White House.

'The animal that shot the two National Guardsmen, with both being critically wounded, and now in two separate hospitals, is also severely wounded, but regardless, will pay a very steep price,' he wrote on Truth Social.

'God bless our Great National Guard, and all of our Military and Law Enforcement. These are truly Great People. I, as President of the United States, and everyone associated with the Office of the Presidency, am with you!'

DC Police said at least one suspect is in custody after shooting near the White House this afternoon.

Two National Guard soldiers shot near White House

Two National Guard soldiers have reportedly been shot near the White House, sparking a security lockdown at the president's residence.

Early reports suggest the shooter is in custody after multiple people were shot down the street from the White House in the center of DC.

An image has emerged online showing a national guard troop laying injured on the pavement as blood pours from his head while Secret Service agents give him medical attention.

An FBI source told the Daily Mail that agents are on their way and will be on scene as soon as possible.
