A heated debate is sweeping the nation after airlines kicked a string of passengers off flights due to their outfit choices.

With crop tops, leggings and bike shorts increasingly sparking outrage among flight crews, women are finding themselves barred from boarding for outfits deemed inappropriate.

Now critics are accusing airlines of unfairly targeting women with sexist and arbitrary dress codes, igniting a nationwide conversation about whether airlines should have the power to police passengers clothing.

However, others argue that these policies help maintain a family-friendly environment onboard.

1. Spirit Airlines kicks off two women over crop tops

In the latest incident to spark outrage, Spirit Airlines removed two women from a Los Angeles to New Orleans flight earlier this month after claiming their crop tops violated the carriers clothing standards.

Tara Kehidi and Teresa Araujo thought they were in for a routine trip from Los Angeles to New Orleans last Friday.

Instead, they found themselves in a heated confrontation with a male flight attendant who deemed their crop tops too risqué for their flight.

The frustrated passengers asked for an explanation, but the confrontation escalated and they were removed from the flight without a refund.

The friends asked the man to explain what dress code rule they had violated when they claim they were kicked off the plane.

Its just humiliating having to be escorted and treated like a criminal just because we were wearing crop tops. It was such a dehumanizing experience. We wasted our time, other peoples time, our money, our dignity, Tara told Dailymail.com.

Teresa is a travel influencer with nearly 40,000 followers and the two were heading to New Orleans to celebrate Taras birthday.

Before boarding the plane, the duo had recorded a video showing their outfits with Teresa wearing ripped jeans, a white crop top and a green striped sweater. Tara wore striped pants, a white crop top and navy zip-up jacket.

Its very warm and humid and hot in the plane because they dont have the A/C or anything on, so we just take off our sweaters and the single male flight attendant comes up to us and says You guys need to put your sweaters back on right now, Tara said.

We were both just a little shocked, and like covering ourselves with our sweaters a little bit because we were nervous, and we had no idea what was going on.

We were sweating because it was so hot, so we took the sleeves off our sweaters, but we were covering our stomachs and cleavages with the sweaters because apparently that was so offensive to him.

According to the woman, the flight attendant came back to reprimand them and the situation escalated when they inquired about the dress code policy and he brought over his supervisor.

The supervisor told them she does not have a problem with what they are wearing, but the male flight attendant made the executive decision that you guys need to cover up.

We got escorted out by one of the supervisors because she said either she was going to call the cops or we could choose to go with her and she would rebook our flights rebooked, Tara said.

They were using intimidation and power tactics on us. Weve never been in a law situation getting in trouble, so we were like oh my god, what do we do?

We left the plane with her because we didnt want to cause more issues and she flat out lied to us. When we left they said Sorry, we cant rebook your flight, you got kicked off the plane.

The duo said they took off their sweaters to cool down because the air conditioning was not on when the flight attendant reprimanded them

The women said they were forced to spend an additional $1,000 to get flights on a different airline.

In response to the latest Spirit incident, the airline said that a legal agreement called their Contract of Carriage may explain why two women were kicked off a flight for wearing crop-tops.

2. Braless passenger removed from Delta flight

In January, a traveler was kicked off a plane in the US for not wearing a bra and insists she was punished for not meeting gender expectations.

Lisa Archbold, who identifies as queer, demanded an apology from Delta Airlines after claiming staff picked on her solely for wearing mens clothing on a flight from Salt Lake City to San Francisco on January 22.

Archbold, who is a publicist and had been promoting an actors brand of vodka at the Sun Dance Film Festival, said she was shocked to be approached by a Delta employee shortly after boarding the plane.

She claimed she was told the baggy shorts and t-shirt she was wearing were too revealing and violated the airlines dress code meaning she needed to wear a jacket.

I was dressed like a little boy... I had no idea what she was talking about, Archbold said sharing a photo of the outfit to social media.

She essentially weaponized Deltas policy to humiliate and abuse a woman, she didnt think was being a woman in the right way.

Archbold contended that lots of men have bigger breasts than me including some of the male passengers on the flight.

She claimed the experience was humiliating and had started when she had a super weird experience with staff at the boarding gate.

Once seated Archbold assumed the worst when the employee came over to speak to her.

Im thinking, someone has died or they found something weird in my bag, the traveler told the NZ Herald.

This woman from the ground crew comes to me and loudly says in front of the whole plane, I need to speak to you in private. Follow me.

A search of the website showed Delta does not have an official dress code for travelers.

3. Ex-Miss Universe told outfit is inappropriate by American Airlines

In January 2022, Former Miss Universe Olivia Culpo slammed American Airlines after staff said her traveling outfit was inappropriate and demanded she put on a blouse over her crop top and bike shorts or risk being banned from her flight to Mexico.

The 29-year-old shared details of the altercation on her Instagram Stories, where both she and her older sister Aurora - who was traveling with her - took the airline to task over their dress code guidelines.

Sharing a video of Culpos ensemble on her own account, the models sister Aurora insisted that her sibling looked cute and appropriate in her athleisure look, which consisted of a black sports bra, black biker shorts, and a long black cardigan.

However, American Airlines staff clearly did not agree, with Aurora revealing: Olivia and I are going to Cabo. Look at her outfit ... She looks cute, she looks appropriate, no?

They call her up to the desk and tell her that she needs to put a blouse on otherwise she cant get on the plane. Tell me, is that not so f***ed up? American Airlines, I love you so much, [but] please get me to Cabo.

Culpo then re-shared the video on her own Instagram, where she questioned how her outfit could have been deemed offensive, writing: Oh no Im confused lol. Is this inappropriate/offensive?

To add insult to injury, after Culpo covered her ensemble up with a large hoodie that she borrowed from her NFL player beau Christian McCaffrey, she and her sister came across a fellow passenger who was also wearing a similar athleisure look, which had not been flagged by American Airlines staff.

See? She looks beautiful but they dont care, Aurora said, while filming the unnamed womans look, which featured a turquoise sports bra, turquoise leggings, and a long turquoise cardigan. But [Culpo] has to cover up?

The woman in the turquoise outfit was equally horrified by American Airlines treatment of Culpo, joking that the model actually looked far more reserved than she did, saying: Shes covered up! My titties is out! Thats weird.

On its website, American Airlines offers very limited guidance about what outfits are deemed appropriate for travel, saying simply in its conditions of carriage that passengers must dress appropriately, adding that bare feet or offensive clothing arent allowed.

Although Culpo agreed to cover up in order to be allowed onto her flight, she didnt stop questioning the airlines decision on Instagram, where both she and her sister continued to post about the incident.

4. Turkish fitness influencer denied boarding due to Skimpy Attire

In July 2021, a Turkish bodybuilder and fitness model living in the US was stopped from boarding a plane in Texas, allegedly because airline staff thought she was too skimpily dressed.

Influencer Deniz Saypinar, 26, who moved to the US to avoid the conservative surroundings in her homeland, claimed she was banned from boarding her flight to Miami because the authorities found her outfit inappropriate.

Deniz had recently moved to the city of Los Angeles in the US state of California to advance her bodybuilder career and experience freedom.

However, the 26-year-old bodybuilder got stuck at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport in the US state of Texas after American Airlines flight attendants found her fashion sense unfitting.

Outraged, Saypinar took to social media to share her ordeal with her one million Instagram followers and said: You will never believe what happened to me at Texas Airport.

In a teary Instagram story, Saypinar criticized the staff and claimed they called her naked while displaying the outfit that caused staff to choose not to allow her onto the flight.

The fitness model explained how she was told by flight attendants that her style disturbed other families at the airport.

5. MAGA Supporter escorted off Delta flight for vulgar Trump t-shirt

Its not just about crop tops causing chaos - in August a seething MAGA supporter was escorted off a Delta Airlines flight for wearing a shirt that showed Donald Trump giving the middle finger along with a raunchy reference to the hawk tuah girl video.

A video posted in the Reddit group r/delta captured the moment the irate man was being led off the plane at Floridas Sarasota Bradenton International Airport.

In the clip, the irate traveler can be seen sporting a black t-shirt with an image of Trump wearing American-flag sunglasses and flipping the bird with both hands.

Above the picture of the former president, the words HAWK TUAH, are blazoned in giant white letters.

At the bottom of the shirt, Spit on that thang, is written- a lewd reference to the viral video in which Hailey Welch simulated the sound of spitting during oral sex.

Im getting kicked off because of my shirt, the man declares to the other passengers as he walks down the aisle with his suitcase.

And this is her reporting, he says, jerking his thumb in the direction of the stewardess.

Then he reads the name tag of the Delta employee who is ushering him off the plane.

Stupid a** Wendy, he sneers.

As he disembarks from the plane, he calls thank you, Wendy.

According to Reddit user SKBeachGirl, who posted the video, they were sitting next to a young man before boarding that had on a Trump shirt with middle fingers.

At some point, an airline employee approached the man about his shirt.

They told him that someone had complained and that he must change his shirt or he would not be permitted to board, the Reddit user explained.
