New York Governor Kathy Hochul declared a state of emergency for eight counties in southern New York and urged locals to prepare for flooding and power outages as the storm barrels toward the city.

As the Noreaster continues making its way through New York, Im declaring a state of emergency across boroughs and counties most impacted by the storm, Hochul said.

The safety of New Yorkers is my top priority, and I continue to urge extreme caution until the storm has passed through the state.

The emergency declaration forced organizers of the citys 81st annual Columbus Day Parade to cancel.

Over 40,000 homes across the Mid-Atlantic and New England regions are without power as of Monday morning, according to PowerOutage.Us.

The FAA warned that ground stops and delays could impact LaGuardia, John F. Kennedy and Newark airports today due to the severe weather.

A powerful coastal storm with strong winds and potential flooding forecast has prompted a state of emergency to be declared in New York City as wild weather batters the US.

Coastal flood warnings have been put in place for Long Island, New York City and Southern Westchester County beginning 12pm Sunday through 8pm Monday.

The National Weather Service has also issued a high wind warning for much of Suffolk County, with a wind advisory in place for the rest of Long Island, New York City and Southern Westchester County.

NYC's Columbus Day Parade canceled

New York' state of emergency declaration forced organizers of the city's 81st annual Columbus Day Parade to cancel.

'Due to the Governor’s declaration of a State of Emergency this evening in response to the dangerous weather conditions brought on by the Nor’easter, including high winds, heavy rain and flooding in surrounding areas, we must cancel the 81st Annual Columbus Day Parade for the safety of all participants and viewers,' organizers told Fox 5.

NYC airports warned of major delays

The FAA warned that ground stops and delays could impact LaGuardia, John F. Kennedy and Newark airports today due to the severe weather.

LaGuardia could start to see the delays this morning, while JFK and Newark could start experiencing them as soon as 1pm.

Newark Liberty, LaGuardia and Kennedy saw 18 cancelled flights and more than 200 delays by late Sunday evening, according to FlightAware.

Over 40,000 without power Monday morning

Over 40,000 homes across the Mid-Atlantic and New England regions are without power as of Monday morning, according to PowerOutage.Us.

In New Jersey, 13,467 customers are experiencing power outages, as well as 9,327 in Connecticut, 8,859 in New York and 4,278 in Massachusetts.

State of emergency in New Jersey as powerful nor'easter threatens East Coast flooding

A State of Emergency has been declared in New Jersey as a storm barrels up the East Coast.

The storm without a name is expected to bring flooding to the East Coast from South Carolina to New Jersey and high winds to New York City over the Columbus Day holiday weekend.

'I urge all New Jerseyans to exercise caution, monitor local weather forecasts and warnings, stay informed on evacuation protocols, and remain off the roads unless absolutely necessary,' acting New Jersey Governor Tahesha Way said in a statement.
