Reece Wheeler, 24, was sentenced to four years in prison after he drove at high speed with the copper clinging on to his door for more than 700 metres.

While on proactive duty in Luton, Officer PC R and his colleagues spotted a vehicle they had suspected was involved in drug dealing.

As they approached the parked car, PC R attempted to detain Wheeler.

However, the vehicle sped off at such a speed that the officer had no option but to cling to the car and was carried more than 700 metres.

The officer bravely kept hold of the suspect and managed to arrest him on his own until backup arrived.

His courageous actions not only led to Wheeler’s arrest but also in the seizure of weapons, class A drugs and the recovery of a stolen vehicle.

PC R was awarded the PC Jon Henry Shield, which was presented in memory of PC 5584 Jon Henry who was murdered in the line of duty.

Reece Wheeler, of no fixed address, was sentenced last week at Luton Crown Court to four years in prison, after he was found guilty of GBH without intent, handling stolen goods and dangerous driving.

He also received a five-year driving ban.
