Left-wing commentator Peter FitzSimons has taken a swipe at Elon Musk while admitting to owning an electric car produced by the billionaire.

FitzSimons, 63, took to Musks social media platform X on Tuesday to post a barbed confession about owning a Tesla

When asked what car he drove, FitzSimons replied: Tesla. But dont judge me. I bought it before Musk went mad, and disgraced himself.

Aussies were divided over FitzSimons admission.

Same. We have a fake Toyota badge on ours now, one person wrote alongside a photo of their white Tesla.

Whats Musk got to do with it… its a public company… I think you either like EVs or the car, another user wrote.

That you actually felt the need to make this tweet. As some sort of virtue signal to goodness knows who, a third said.

And its not the first time FitzSimons has lashed the billionaire.

In late 2021, he threatened to leave X, then Twitter, if Mr Musk let former US President Donald Trump back onto the platform after he was banned in January.

Replying to a tweet by Nalini Haynes who promised she would be gone if allows Trump and the Parler mob back in FitzSimons wrote: Me too.

This was despite Mr Trump already being reinstated on Twitter when FitzSimons made the post.

Since that time Mr Musk has become a vocal supporter of Mr Trumps attempt to win back the White House in the upcoming US elections and he has declared war on what he calls the woke mind virus.

In April FitzSimons tweeted a piece with the headline Elon Musk might be doing a lot of damage to Tesla by fellow Nine newspaper columnist Stephen Bartholomeusz.

Noting Teslas falling sales Bartholomeusz speculated they might relate to the brand damage being inflicted by Elon Musk, whose war on wokeness has alienated large parts of his potential customer base.

FitzSimons once had a much more favourable view of Mr Musks projects.

In a Sydney Morning Herald column from 2017, Fitzgerald gushed over South Australias decision to install a giant lithium ion Tesla battery.

Yes, within 100 days, Elon Musks mob, Tesla, will install the worlds largest lithium ion battery, in Adelaide, to expand the states renewable energy supply, FitzSimons wrote, adding how sweet it is that the deal had been done.

Battery storage is the future of our national energy market, and the eyes of the world will be following our leadership in this space, he said.
