His mother Jahzeen Carpenter, 39, and aunt, Nadine Taylor, 44, are accused of helping Carpenter evade police in the days following the incident.

The pair, both from Dudley, West Midlands, appeared before magistrates on Tuesday charged with assisting an offender.

They have been released on bail and are due to appear before Wolverhampton Crown Court on 8 October.

Mr Fisher was fatally stabbed after a knife was smuggled through security into the Crane nightclub in Digbeth, Birmingham, in a pre-planned act of retribution for a minor incident two days earlier.

Carpenter received a minimum 25-year sentence for the fatal stabbing alongside Remy Gordon, 23, who was given a 26-year minimum sentence.

A third man, Reegan Anderson, 19, was found not guilty of murder but guilty of affray.

Jurors at Birmingham Crown Court were told Gordon, of Cofton Park Drive, Birmingham, orchestrated the awful revenge after Mr Fisher made brief unavoidable contact with his back while leaving a club in Solihull on Christmas Eve.

Mr Fisher was not prepared to apologise, having done nothing wrong and after being threatened with violence he left the club with his friend, the court heard.

Gordon sent messages on Snapchat to his friends around 45 minutes after the initial incident, appealing for help to identify a photograph of Mr Fisher and threatening to shank him up.

Mobile phone footage of the victim lying on the floor after he was stabbed in the chest and leg by Carpenter, of Owens Croft, Kings Norton, was shown to the court.

Mr Fisher, who also played football for Stratford Town and Bromsgrove Sporting, died at the scene.

After their sentencing, the talented footballers mother Tracy Fisher slammed the jail time as too lenient and demanded longer sentences for those carrying knives.

Speaking outside the court, Mr Fishers mother Tracey criticised the shocking sentences and said justice had not been served for her son.

For us as a family Cody will still not come home and we will forever live in the shadow of his senseless murder, she said.

I know that our grief will go on and we will continue with our life sentence, missing our child each and every day.

Tracey added: Justice will never be done. Those sentences, shocking. Tracey added that she would like to see harsher sentences for carrying knives, and branding those who do as weak, pathetic cowards.

Our beautiful boy lost his life to knife crime, for no reason at all.

In an impact statement from Tracey paying tribute to her son, she said: Since this horrendous day I feel that my own life has ended, it is as though I too was stabbed straight through the heart.

I have seen myself go from the happiest, outgoing person, to fighting the hell out of just getting through each and every horrendous, never-ending day in the abhorrent knowledge that my youngest son, my best friend, is never coming home to sleep in his bedroom, the room that I still cannot enter even to this day.

I instilled in Cody from a young boy that he must stick up for himself and dont let anyone bully him.

I told him that sad, weak individuals do exist in our society and they ruin lives - how ironic and saddening that this is exactly what happened to Cody.

He was only doing what his mum told him to do and I think about this every day, but you never expect your child to be murdered.
