McDonalds employees at an Oakland location claim their hours were cut after they filed a government complaint about crime in their store.
Workers at the 14th Street location filed a complaint with the California Division of Occupational Safety and Health (Cal/OSHA) on December 20, just days after an armed robbery took place in their store and a machete incident took place in September, according to KRON 4.
The same day, management reportedly told workers they would be shutting the stores lobby and that hours would be cut to accommodate the change, including cutting shifts to six hours.
However, the employees who complained said their hours were cut by 50 percent, while others kept their full-time schedules. It left the fast-food workers begging for hours and struggling to pay their bills, according to the outlet, which viewed the complaint.
They are accusing the store of retaliating against them for making the complaint, and they want an investigation into the actual hours worked for each employee, before and after we filed the Cal/OSHA Complaint.

On Friday, the workers of the 14th Street store went on strike over the retaliation. They claim Cal/OSHA has come to the store, but only spoke to management. The union said: Its our legal right to have a safe workplace!
[We believe it] will show that the complainants have disproportionately borne the brunt of the impact of the lobby closure, as a form of retaliation by management for filing the CalOSHA Complaint, the employees said.
Theyve also demanded a meeting with store ownership to discuss the schedule, according to KRON 4.

We demand a meeting with store ownership to discuss the ongoing illegal actions and retaliation. We further demand that we be allowed to bring someone from our Union to translate during that meeting with this store’s ownership, the union said.

The McDonalds brand has taken a hit recently after it was caught up in an E. coli outbreak after Former President Donald Trump stopped by a Pennsylvania store to hand out food and scoop fries into boxes.
Donald Trump, pictured serving fries at Pennsylvania McDonalds over the weekend, has consistently said Kamalas story of working at the fast food joint is false
A major outbreak of the bacteria E. Coli has been linked to fast food stores in Mountain West states, killing one and hospitalizing 10 others.
The outbreak has resulted in about 2,700 stores, roughly one-fifth of those in the US, discontinuing the chains Quarter Pounder, as officials suspect its patty or onions may have been contaminated.
The CDC says anyone who ate a Quarter Pounder - which is consumed by 100,000 Americans per day - and feels sick should contact their doctor immediately.
Food safety experts told DailyMail.com that those who ate at McDonalds should remain vigilant for two to eight days after being exposed, as symptoms could take about a week to start.
E. Coli kills up to a fifth of the people it infects, so the advice is not to wait and to seek help immediately. So far 49 Americans are confirmed to have the illness after eating at McDonalds but that is likely a vast undercount, the CDC says.
Burger King, KFC, Pizza Hut, and Taco Bell have followed McDonalds lead and stopped using fresh onions in their foods, citing them as the most likely source of a deadly E. coli outbreak in western states.
The Republican nominee got behind the fryer at a McDonalds in the Philadelphia suburbs and manned the drive-thru counter last week in a bid to undermine Democratic nominee Kamala Harris.
Ive now worked for 15 minutes more than Kamala, Trump said after working at the fast food restaurant, revisiting his claim that his rival didnt work at McDonalds as a college student as she says she did.

Harris, 60, throughout her campaign has touted how she worked at a California branch of the fast-food franchise, although her camp hasnt furnished any photos of her youthful job there. Trump claims that Harris is lying and never worked at the restaurant, but has not provided any evidence to back that up.
Video captured from within the kitchen on Sunday showed Trump, 78, passing out orders to a group of grateful prearranged customers - Trump supporters understood to have been pre-selected by his camp - who were were to see the ex-president serving their food and told him why theyll be supporting him in the election next month.
McDonalds has come out and said it is not endorsing a political party and enjoys that both top candidates have a connection to the brand.
