I live on a canal boat...this is how much it costs before you even get on the water

For those sick of the rat race, living on a canal boat could be seen as the ideal chance for a more tranquil existence.

But while you escape the stresses of a commute or office, youll need a fair few pounds in the bank before you even take to the water.

Posting to TikTok under the handle @boattega, a man has revealed how much it cost him to get his boat on the water - with a running total detailing each charge.

First up, he shared the total cost of the physical canal boat itself, which in his case amounted to £15,000.

He then shared the cost of having to transport the canal boat itself from a factory if it is new or elsewhere if being bought second-hand.

In his case, transportation costs came to an additional £2,400.

The he moved on to yard preparation - which involves when the boat is stationary for an extended period of time - which totalled £320.

He added that a further £65 was required for materials to ensure that living conditions on the boat would remain safe and up-to-standard.

He ripped out the fixtures inside the boat himself so it cost him nothing.

In total, this brought the cost of preparing a boat to be habitable on a canal to £17,785.

Reacting to the video in the comments section, other users were impressed by how cheap the costs were, pointing out that he could make a huge long-term profit as a result of his work.

One said: That would be worth £50,000 when you are finished. Doing well so far.

Another posted: Looks well worth 15k. Im looking for the same as soon as my campervan sells.

One more commented: Are there any costs to stay at a quay on the canal.

The individual replied: There would be but thankfully we have the yard. Well cover mooring costs soon hopefully.
