The Chicago man who beat his 17-year-old daughter to death in May 2022 will spend the next 55 years in prison.
Mohammed Almaru, 42, was found guilty of first-degree murder for killing his daughter, Mia Maro, in August of 2022, confessing afterwards in a letter to his son that I lost my mind, went out of control and beat the s**t out of her.
In the days before her death, Almaru forbade his daughter from attending her prom. She was killed just months before graduating high school.
On Monday, he was sentenced to 55 years for the killing.

Almaru had beaten his daughter to death with a metal pole and a rubber mallet after going through her phone and discovering she was lying to him about things
His attorneys attempted to reduce his sentence, filing a motion to seek a new trial immediately. But the judge denied it and doubled down, saying that Almaru must serve 100 percent of his sentence, ABC 7 Chicago reported.
Although hell receive credit for the two-plus years hes already spent behind bars, he will be 97 years old by the time he is eligible for release.
Mia confided to family and friends days before the murder that she was fearful of her father.
She had sent a text to a relative that said she was in a fender bender and afraid her father was going to beat her, and even scared he was going to kill her, Fox 32 Chicago reported.
Her aunt Randa had sent multiple text messages to her niece, aware that she hadnt attended the prom. All of her attempts to check in went unanswered. She became worried and headed over to the home two days after the prom.
In a ruse to get Almaru to allow her inside, Randa planned to buy marijuana from him.

When she entered the family home, Randa was asked to sit with Audrey, his disabled wife who suffered a unspecific brain injury in 2019.
Almaru suddenly vanished.
Then the aunt heard gargling from a room in the home and went inside to find Mia under a blanket, lifeless, and the father who had attempted to kill himself.

Almaru was lying near his daughters body with self-inflicted wounds to his wrist and his throat. He had also ingested multiple narcotic pills.
He was taken away on a stretcher to be intubated at the hospital, CBS Chicago reported.
Other relatives soon began to arrive to the home, distraught and shouting at the scene.

Prosecutors said that he had also got into a disagreement with his daughter over attending her schools prom, which he initially gave permission to before changing his mind, stating that he did not trust her, NBC 5 reported.
In the letter to his son after the killing, Almaru said: I lost my mind, went out of control and beat the s***t out of her... I f***ed up big time Im sorry.
I laid down with her, was uncontious [sic] and woke up to her cold body, he told his son.
Mia was a senior at Victor J. Andrew High School and had plans to attend college with goals to be a dental hygienist.
