Instead, after spending around 90 minutes at the house, the police officer then leisurely left the house and returned to work.

The woman, who cannot be named, later texted an ex-girlfriend of PC Austin, who was also a police officer, saying: He missed a call on his radio while we were in the middle.

Replying she said: During work? Thats a job loser. Tell work.

PC Austin was hauled before a police disciplinary panel in March to answer claims he had sex while on duty.

The bearded officer, who served with Sussex Police in Eastbourne, vehemently denied the allegations.

The case was adjourned. But now the officer has abruptly resigned from the force.

The constable, an ardent Sheffield Wednesday fan, will face no further action and will keep his gold-plated police pension.

A police disciplinary panel was told the incident happened on Tuesday November 23 2021.

PC Austin was on duty and had gone into work as usual but contacted his former partner and invited himself round to her house, arriving at around 1.30pm.

The pair, who have a child together, then had sex before he eventually left the house at 14.43pm.

The hearing was told the pair had been in a long-standing relationship together but had split up some time before.

PC Austin had then embarked on another relationship with a female police officer before moving on to yet another officer.

But when the ex-partner bumped into PC Austin hand in hand with his new girlfriend at a Jimmy Carr gig in Eastbourne she was furious.

Believing he had ended the relationship his ex-partner confronted him and an argument broke out.

A complaint was eventually lodged with Sussex Police by a friend of of the ex-partner who felt she was being treated appallingly.

Her claims were backed by ex-partners own boyfriend who had a 45-minute call with PC Austin in which the officer allegedly confessed to having sex with his former partner.

An investigation was launched by Sussex Police who visited PC Austins former partner at her home to interview her.

During two interviews on December 2 and December 8 she claimed she had sex with PC Austin at her house.

She also told the officers the police officer had failed to respond to a call on his radio because they were having sex at the time.

A spokesperson for Sussex Police said: Sussex Police does continue misconduct hearings where the officer has resigned, however these continue to be subject to appropriate reviews and assessments by the Appropriate Authority leading up to proceedings.

In this case the AA believed that following PC Austins resignation and taking account of all the matters in the case, it was not in the public interest to continue with the conduct proceedings.
