An upscale coffee chain has rocked the internet after switching to colostomy bags to serve their drinks as opposed to the common plastic cup.
Popular coffee chain 787 Coffee, which has locations in New York City, Texas and Puerto Rico, made the switch to plastic bags in April 2023 and has since reveled in the internets reaction.
Buzz for the IV bag lattes exploded last year, when popular TikToker Delaney Ager, 24, raved about them in a video that has since received 620,000 views.
Some commenters loved the bags, while others critiqued the aesthetics likening them to colostomy bags - a small, waterproof pouch that collects waste from the body after a surgical procedure.

Another TikTok user, Alex Pouloutides, expressed her outrage over the coffee chains new offering, comparing the bagged drink to poopy bags used in hospitals.
I love New York, but the next time I get coffee in a bag ... Im moving to Georgia, she said.
This s*** is ridiculous. It looks like one of those little poopy bags that sick people have to use at the hospital, she added.
Since 787s unveiling of the colostomy bag coffee the chain has done away with plastic cups and exclusively offers the pouch in all stores.
Unsurprisingly, coffee drinkers are divided about the new and now on-trend approach with some praising the innovation and others disliking the pouches so much theyre embarrassed to be seen with them.
I was really annoyed when I got this. Also the shitty paper straw wouldn’t even get to the bottom of the bag. For a $6.50 cold brew, give me a cup, one user on Reddit said of the bagged innovation.
WTF is this?? If they want to stop single use plastics they can just give you the iced coffee in a cardboard cup? another user commented.

I just experienced this yesterday at 787. Its a shame cause its my favorite spot down there. The straw doesnt reach and the Ziploc wont actually stay closed with the straw in there. This will legit be a reason I dont go back, another added.
The chain, which grows its beans in America, said the switch was made with the goal to reduce environmental impact.
They dissolve faster than hard plastic, reducing their environmental impact, 787s cofounder Brandon Pena said in a statement.
They are reusable, which allows customers to repurpose in creative ways.
With little public information available about the bags’ environmental impacts, some questioned their ecological impacts, pointing out other chains like Blue Bottle and Starbucks that offer paper and cardboard cups.
The bagged-drink approach also sets the shop apart from its vast amount of competitors according to Adam Alter, a marketing professor at NYU.
In an interview with the Gothamist, Alter compared the pouches to Apple’s switch to white headphones from the standard black in 2001.
Coffee cups are black headphones; theyre used by almost every coffee shop, he said.
Pouches are white earphones; theyre unique, and so they stand out and signal that a person is drinking 787.
